elephants go...

Painting on cloth, from charity shop, now on my wall
...like this, like that.
Jute elephant, present to young John, on bathroom mantelpiece
They're terribly tall, they're terribly fat.

Present from Mythily for good luck, allotment shed
But gracious what a nose.

There is something very magical and prehistoric about elephants. I always feel they know what we're thinking...

It's hard to have favourites, but I think that the elephant in the painting is my favourite too. This week, at least. I particularly like his lovely fat backside, much nicer than the somewhat saggy behinds on the real thing. And just like the ones that Neil McGregor described this week in the History of the World in 100 objects, he is so jolly looking.
